Signs of Gum Disease
Gum disease starts off as gingivitis and, if left untreated, can progress into full blown periodontitis. The sooner gum disease is treated, the better. If you’re wondering what signs to look out for, here are some of the most common symptoms associated with periodontal disease.
- Bleeding Gums (From Brushing or Flossing)
- Chronic Bad Breath
- Loose Teeth
- Pockets Between Teeth & Gums
- Receding Gums
- Red or Swollen Gums
- Sensitive or Sore Gums
If you experience any of the symptoms above, please contact us so we can get you in for a consultation as soon as possible!
Periodontal Disease Treatments
Periodontal disease has different stages so your treatment method will depend on which stage you’re in. After your examination, Dr. Tay or Dr. Nguyen will design a treatment plan based on your individual needs.
Deep cleanings for gum disease are often referred to as scaling and root planing. Cleanings are primarily used for treating early to mid stage gum disease. During your deep cleaning, we remove built-up plaque and bacteria that’s lingering around or below your gum line. After the cleaning, we smooth and reshape the surface of your gums to prevent bacteria from hiding there in the future.
ARESTIN is an antibiotic that we can put in the pockets between your teeth and gums after a scaling and root planing treatment. It remains inside the pockets for an extended amount of time to prevent bacteria and plaque from building up inside them. ARESTIN helps your gums heal faster so you can recover quickly.
Soft Tissue Laser
Laser gum treatment is for more advanced stages of periodontal disease. The laser directly targets and removes infected gum tissue. Dental lasers induce faster recovery times and stimulate gum growth. With our advanced soft tissue lasers, you can bypass more invasive periodontal surgery.
